Kiryandongo Refugee Settlement

Position Title: Legal Officer/Advocate (01 posts)

Primary Purpose of the Position

The legal officer will be in charge of the Programme Legal Desk and ensure coordination and follow up with legal service providers to promote equal access to justice for Persons of Concern through proper implementation of weekly /monthly /quarterly activity schedules to attain the required targets

Duties

  • Develop and ensure implementation of weekly /monthly /quarterly activity schedules & targets.
  • Coordinate and follow up with legal service provision and service providers.
  • Ensure information dissemination to Persons of Concern and the community on legal issues.
  • Conduct follow up and referral of Persons in need of legal assistance.
  • Build the capacity of Programme staff to attend to Persons of Concern with legal issues.
  • Ensure coordination with service providers and stakeholders to ensure access to legal services by Persons of Concern.
  • Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports to submit to the Programme Officer.

 

 Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree of Legal Laws (LLB) and a Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (PGDLP).
  • Experience of two years in Refugee and Human Rights will be an added advantage.

Position Title: Legal Assistant

Primary Purpose of the Position

The Legal Assistant shall provide support to the Legal Officer with implementation of all the planned activities and accomplishing of targets as scheduled and provide legal counselling to Refugees and Asylum Seekers.

Primary duties / Responsibilities

  • Provide legal counselling to Refugees and asylum seekers.
  • Ensure information dissemination to Persons of Concern and the community on legal issues.
  • Ensure coordination with legal service providers and stakeholders to ensure access to legal services by Persons of Concern.
  • Coordinate with legal service providers Liaise with police local administration, prisons, Government and private institutions on refugee legal issues.
  • Coordinate and follow up with legal service provision and service providers.

Position Title: Reception Center Care taker

Primary Purpose of the Position

The job holder is responsible for managing the reception center, and ensuring efficient and effective reception and service delivery to the new arrivals.

 Duties

  • Ensure awareness creation among the new arrivals on services available and procedures of accessing services in the settlement.
  • Ensure that services provision at the reception center is efficient and effective including shelter, hot meals and other services.
  • Ensure proper hygiene and sanitation at the reception center
  • Support the registration/documentation of the new arrivals

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Social Work, Social Sciences and any other related field.
  • At least 03 years of community management work experience.
  • Knowledge of the South Sudanese languages (Arabic, Nuer, Acholi and others), experience in working with refugees and ability to ride are of added advantages.

Position Title: Reception Center Assistant

Duties

  • Assist reception centre care taker in the management of  the reception centre.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Social Work, Social Sciences and any other related field.
  • At least 02 years of community management work experience.
  • Knowledge of the South Sudanese languages (Arabic, Nuer, Acholi and others), experience in working with refugees and ability to ride are added advantages.

Position Title: SGBV Assistant

Primary Purpose of the Position

The SGBV Assistant will support the implementation of programme activities for the prevention and response of SGBV in the refugee communities in the settlement, and the promotion of protection integration activities through coordination with other stakeholders.

Duties

  • Mobilize the refugee communities and create awareness on SGBV prevention and response and engage the Peer Educators, Refugee Welfare Committee Leaders, School administrators and teachers& Refugee community Leaders in the implementation of the activities.
  • Ensure the participation of the community in SGBV prevention and response through awareness campaigns, monthly village meetings, IEC materials, training, participatory assessments and the referral pathway.
  • Maintain the referral pathway and continuous linkages with other programme desks as well as other agencies and relevant district offices/departments
  • Receive, profile through the GBVIMS and identify SGBV Survivors for referral to medical, legal & psychosocial service centers for appropriate assistance.
  • Follow up on SGBV Survivors referred to different medical, legal & psychosocial service providers.
  • Assess SGBV Survivors and recommend for material assistance, Income Generating Activities & any other appropriate support.
  • Provide Psychosocial counseling to identified SGBV Survivors and conduct home visits for vulnerable cases with special needs.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor Bachelor/Degree in Social work, political science, law or other related field;
  2. 2 years of experience in counseling survivors of gender-based violence or vulnerable women and girls;
  3. Knowledge of the Southern Sudanese languages (Arabic, Nuer& Acholi) and ability to work with people who are of different background and experience.

Position Title: Child Protection Officer

Primary Purpose of the Position

The Child Protection Officer will support the implementation of programme activities to strengthen child protection, and promote Protection integration in coordination with other stakeholders.

Duties

  • Mobilize the refugee communities and create awareness on Child protection issues and promote the engagement of the Child Protection Committees, Refugee Welfare Committee Leaders, School administrators and teachers & Refugee community Leaders in the implementation of the activities.
  • Compile Best Interest Assessments (BIA) and Best Interest Determination (BID) reports for identified children with protection risks for presentation to the BID Panel.
  • Implement and follow up on the recommended interventions by the BID Panel for appropriate management of children at risk.
  • Responsible for prevention and response services for adolescents& children at risk and ensure access to legal, psychosocial, medical and material assistance as means of addressing their protection issues.
  • Facilitate refugee communities to establish community based child protection structures and ensure they are functioning and addressing child protection issues at the community level.
  • Provide psychosocial counseling to identified children at risk and conduct home visits for vulnerable children with special needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Social Work or related disciplines.
  • At least 2 years working experience in Child Protection work.
  • Knowledge of the Southern Sudanese languages (Arabic, Nuer & Acholi) and ability to work with people who are of different background and experience.

 

Position Title: Water Assistant

Primary Purpose of the position

The job holder is to support the setting up an early water alert system at water points in cases of breakdowns, devise ways of improving the water at community level by preventing major contamination by unsafe water and poor hygiene practices.

Duties

  • Information dissemination among the communities through Water User Committees (WUCs).
  • Carryout water quality tests at all water points in the settlement.
  • Repair and maintenance of water facilities, including hand pumps and other water supply systems, in communities and institutions.
  • Mobilization and training of water user committee members.
  • Training of community hand pump mechanics.
  • Setting up an early alert system at water points and at community level to prevent major contamination by unsafe water.

Qualifications

  • A diploma in Water Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized institution
  • Minimum of three (3) years  working experience in a similar field
  • Ability to speak Swahili and Acholi would be desirable

Position Title: Sanitation / Hygiene Assistant

Primary Purpose of the Position

Implement and provide service in the agreed sectors of all activities. Closely work with refugees to ensure efficient delivery of safe water, sanitation and hygiene practices in the assigned zones.

Primary duties / Responsibilities

  • To supervise and monitor the roles of women in community based structures associated with water, hygiene, environmental Sanitation programme.
  • Conduct meetings with school leadership for sanitation mobilization and sanitization.
  • Assist management of institutions in resolving challenges relating to maintenance and management of all sanitary and hygiene facilities within the respective institutions.
  • Be involved in the consultation and discussion with beneficiaries, RWC leaders, school health clubs, sanitation committees and any other established structures in the settlement on hygiene and sanitation issues.

Qualifications.

  • Bachelors’ Degree or higher Diploma in Sanitation Engineering / Health Education and Promotion / Public Health / Disaster risk reduction or Social sciences.
  • Minimum of three (3) years or more working experience in a similar field.
  • Possession of TOT training in either PHAST, CHAST, CLTS or DRR methodologies would be an  added advantage.
  • Fluency in Kiswahili and Acholi would be desirable

Position Title: Environment Assistant

Primary Purpose of the position

The job holder will absorb the knowledge required, over the wide range of environmental health issues, and to make an effective contribution to the technical resources of the organization.

Duties / Responsibilities;

  • Assist Environmental officer in the provision of a comprehensive Environmental Health Service which will focus on the protection of refugees and the local environment through a combination of advice, education and enforcement of relevant environmental health regulations

Qualifications

A minimum of diploma with a major in environmental, biological, physical, chemical, or earth science or a closely related field

Position Title: Livelihood Officer/IGA

 Duties

  • Manage Livelihood desk and coordinate all livelihood activities of the Programme .
  • Train identified refugees in business / Entrepreneur skills.
  • Conduct Business clinics for refugees interested in starting businesses.
  • Support provision of funds to refugee groups tom start IGAs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Agriculture or Micro Finance
  • Experience of two years in Project Planning and Management
  • Must poses a valid Riding Permit
  • Fluency in Kiswahili and Acholi will be an added advantage.

Position Title: Accountant

Primary Purpose of the Position

  • To handle day today accounting of the project including processing pf payment and generation of periodic financial reports that comply with donor requirements.
  • Assist in the administrative functions of the office

  Qualifications

  • Bachelors of Commerce  Degree or its equivalent
  • Knowledge of pastel accounting package and  previous experience with NGOs are of added advantage.

URBAN REFUGEE PROJECT- KAMPALA

 Legal Officer/Advocate

Education Officer

The Education Officer will coordinate Urban Refugee Programme – Education Desk

Duties

  • Coordinate and follow up with on education desk issues and service providers.
  • Ensure information dissemination to Persons of Concern and the community on refugee access to Education.
  •  Ensure coordination with Education service provision stakeholders in the urban.
  • Coordinate the capacity building of service providers to contribute to increased refugee access to education.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Education, Social Work, Social Sciences and any other related field.
  • At least 03 years of community management work experience.
  • Knowledge of Kiswahili and French are of added advantage.

Human Resource Officer

The Human Resource Officer will develop and assist in the implementation of human resource policies according to the organisation objectives.

Duties

  • liaising with management in policy areas such as staff performance and health and safety
  • recruiting staff - this included developing job descriptions and person specifications
  • analysing training needs in conjunction with departmental managers
  • undertaking regular salary reviews administering payroll and maintaining employee records
  • Carrying out staff welfare management for the organisation
  • Planning and organizing the manpower resource through recruitment, deployment, training,
    utilization and discharge as per schedule;
  • Providing technical advice to the organisation on matters related to
  • Human Resource Management issues;
  • Monitoring staff performance through staff appraisal exercise to ensure quality service delivery;
  • Interpreting the Human Resource policies, rules, regulations and procedures;
  • Compiling, reviewing and keeping custody of the staff lists and related personnel records.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Business Administration majoring in Human Resource Management or its Equivalent.
  • At least 2 year of working experience in the field of Human Resource Management
