Job Title: Advocacy/Communications Officer

No of Posts: One (1)

Duty Station: Kampala

Reports to:Executive Director

 

Job Summary: The Advocacy Officer will primarily initiate, design, and plan strategies for promoting and enhancing the public image and awareness of IAU services to the communities in line with the Organization mission and objectives.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and monitor the implementation of policies, strategies, and guidelines, for Public Relations, Advocacy and communications in line with the InterAid Uganda’s strategic plan.
  • Develop and maintain good working relations with the media, including; local and national newspapers, magazines, social media platforms, radios, & TVs; then professionally engage them instantly to rectify issues that negatively impact on the organization's image, while boosting its visibility periodically through targeted promotional messages in line with the InterAid Uganda’s Projects.
  • Liaise with OPM and UNCR Communication officers for joint advocacy interventions.
  • Provide support in all community related activities by creating awareness and support the mobilisation process and participation.
  • Works hand in hand with sector heads to get and circulate relevant information to the PoC as and when required.
  • Responsible for managing all stakeholder information for the organisation for easy access and reference purposes
  • Responsible for all internal and external communications at all times.
  • Continuously carryout research on policy issues and new developments and advise management according on the new or any direction to take.
  • Develop and monitor the implementation of Public Relations, Advocacy and communications ‘operational strategy’ based on holistic strategic thinking and monitor its implementation through periodically developed quarterly consolidated data utilization & reporting by program implementers
  • Develop and monitor the implementation of a consolidated ‘Public Relations, Advocacy and communications’ plan and budget as well as monitor the integration of related activities during planning and budgeting for any InterAid Uganda project objective
  • Actively monitor the development and usage of organizational key information tools that promote both internal and external relations; then represent InterAid Uganda at local, regional so as to engage the public about InterAid Uganda’s mandate in line with the organization’s policies and guidelines.
  • Develop and monitor the implementation of a system to track local and international media reports concerning all projects implemented by interAid Uganda on refugees in Uganda
  • Actively monitor the organizations’ progress in terms of building and maintaining of strong alliances and networks with public and private partner organizations for concerted advocacy efforts and greater participation in policy dialogue, then report their impact on InterAid Uganda’s performance, image, and visibility.
  • Develop and monitor the implementation of strategies for website content management; writing/editing for the web; graphic design; and site management.
  • Develop and monitor the implementation of advocacy strategies that promote a vibrant civil society; targeted community mobilization; and community engagement in advocacy and resource mobilization to enhance community ownership and sustainability.
  • The incumbent will monitor the implementation of guidelines for developing press briefs, and organizing press conferences and events that provide information to the general public and key stakeholders in line with the various grant objectives and departmental mandate
  • Document the best practices implemented, success stories and case studies of the community level changes for dissemination and learning

Experience:

  1. Five years’ experience in a similar role at a middle management level.
  2. Corporate governance exposure.
  3. Past experience in advocacy and communication work is desirable.

Knowledge Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication from a recognized university or its equivalent.
  2. Possession of a masters’ degree in communication/Journalism and or any other relevant field will be an added advantage
  3. Knowledge of stakeholder and corporate social responsibility engagement.

 

Job Title: Livelihood Officer

No of Posts: One (1)

Duty Station: Kampala

Reports to: Programs Officer

 

Job Summary:Responsible for planning, coordinating and leading the implementation of livelihood activities to support the refugee and host community in Kampala to get, maintain and develop sustainable livelihoods.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for planning and coordination of all livelihood activities of the Programme.
  • Train identified refugees in business / Entrepreneur skills.
  • Net working with other private and public livelihood institutions for external livelihood opportunities.
  • Conduct Business clinics for refugees interested in starting businesses.
  • Support provision of funds to refugee groups to start Income Generating Activities.
  • Represent IAU and participate in Sector meetings and other forums
  • Mobilize and sensitize refugees’ communities on livelihood issues and facilitate them to take individual and or group decision on improving their livelihoods.
  • Support refugees, develop and implement business plans for self-reliance.
  • Support and advise refuges on coming up with groups and their management.
  • Conduct monitoring and doing field visits on IGA funds granted.
  • Conduct site visits and assessment of groups before releasing IGA funds
  • Support the desk in recovering the extended IGA funds
  • Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual and specific activity reports and timely submission

 

Experience:

  • Minimum of 4 years relevant work experience in a similar role

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Bachelors’ Degree in Business management, Administration, Micro Finance or any business related course
  • Possession of post graduate qualifications in micro-finance, banking or any business management course will be an added advantage
  • Prior experience in micro finance and loans management is desirable

 

Job Title: Livelihood Assistant

No of Posts: One (2)

Duty Station: Kampala

Reports to:Livelihood Officer

 

Job Summary: To support the Livelihood Officer to implement livelihood activities to support the refugee and host community in Kampala to get, maintain and develop sustainable livelihoods.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the Livelihood Officer in training identified refugees in business / Entrepreneur skills.

Job Title: Education Officer

No of Posts: One (1)

Duty Station: Kampala. 

Reports to: Senior Community Services Officer.

 

Job Summary: To Plan, direct, coordinate the implementation of all planned activities for Education support and promote easy access of Education for Refugee children in schools.

Key position duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for strengthening partnerships with stakeholders; education departments, parents, institutions of learning, and communities.
  • Plan, implement and coordinate all education activities at the program
  • Mobilize and sensitize  refugee parents in  refugee community to take children to public schools
  • Support refugee children access primary education in UPE and USE schools
  • Participate in raising awareness among refugee communities on the right to education for refugee children.
  • Participate in identifying education opportunities and coming up with fundable proposals for education activities for refugee children and host community.
  • Liaise with Legal, Child protection and SGBV sectors to promote identification and support to vulnerable children.
  • Organize and conduct individual and group counseling sessions to children in UPE and USE schools within in Kampala.
  • Assess and identify support for UPE and USE schools
  • Assess and identify vulnerable children for support of UPE and USE school fees.
  • Implement the good school programme
  • Responsible for timely reporting 

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of Five years’ relevant work experience.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in Education, psychology, development studies, social sciences or any other related discipline
  • Possession of post graduate qualification is an added advantage.
  • Good understanding of the Ugandan Education system
  • Ability to understand and interpret the current education policy of Uganda and properly align it to the refugee communities

 

Job Title:Counsellors

No of Posts: Four (4)

Duty Station: Kampala. 

Reports to: Senior Community Services Officer.

 

Job Summary:Responsible for providing quality counseling  services to Clients, their families and host communities to empower them cope with prevailing situations, make informed decisions and live positively for improved quality of life.

Key position duties and responsibilities

  • Provide counseling services and other short term therapeutic services to refugees coming to office on individual and group basis and in communities.
  • Conduct site visits to assess individual psychosocial needs and provide site counselling
  • Identify and assess the individual needs of refugees who are extremely vulnerable and refer them to the PSN desk for support.
  • Ensure up to date record keeping including case preparation, keeping continuous counseling notes and any other documents used in the course of work.
  • Prepare timely periodic and specific activity reports
  • Follow-up and monitor general case status and processing of refugee cases from time to time
  • Work hand in hand with the health team and the visiting psychologist to handle different cases of trauma as and when required.
  • Ensure services are offered in a professional and ethical manner and
  • Document the best practices implemented, success stories and case studies for dissemination and learning.
  • Perform other duties in line with the job as required from time to time by the supervisor.

Experience:

  • Three years relevant years’ experience in handling complex psycho-social cases.

Knowledge Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in psychology, counseling and guidance, counseling psychology or its equivalent from a recognized university
  • A post graduate diploma in counseling psychology preferred.

 

Job Title:  PSN Officer

No of Posts: One (1)

Duty Station: Kiryandongo               

Reports to: Senior Community Services Officer

 

Job Summary:To plan, coordinate and implement all programs geared towards the wellbeing of PSNs

Key position duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for conducting social assessment to PoC and recommend necessary support to the client.
  • Ensure that PoC with disabilities have access to available public services.
  • Responsible for accommodation and houses for PSN.
  • Mobilize and sensitize refugee communities through community out reaches to support the PSN
  • Responsible to ensure that PSNs participate in Income Generating Activities
  • Provide counseling to beneficiaries
  • Coordinate support for identified beneficiaries with specific needs with relevant services and benefits.
  • Conduct awareness campaigns to intended beneficiaries to promote support to persons with specific needs.
  • Compile weekly, monthly, quarterly, annual and specific activity reports and ensure timely submission.
  • Provide support and coordinate with other sections that will provide support to PSNs
  • Ensure that the internal process and work plans are adhered to.

Experience:

  • A minimum of  Two  years’ relevant work experience in an NGO environment from a reputable organisation.

Knowledge  Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree, Social work, social science or any humanities from a recognised institution.
  • Prior experience in managing volunarable groups is desirable.

 

 

Job Title:Finance Assistant

No of Posts: One (1)

Duty Station: Kampala

Reports to: The Accountant

 

Job Summary:To Plan,manage, control & optimize IAU financial resources in line with finance policies and procedures.

Key position duties and responsibilities

  • Develop systems and tools to ensure compliance with organisation directives, policies, guidelines, processes, regulations and legislative and statutory requirements.
  • To provide financial support services to the project through performance of professional accounting.
  • Assist the Accountant in running of day to day accounting activities in the section.
  • Manage relationships with Banks, suppliers etc.
  • Prepare & provide audit information to facilitate performance of statutory audits on a timely basis.
  • Manage Office imp rest and petty cash transactions.
  • Review payment requisitions against supporting documents (supplier invoices, purchase order, goods received notes etc.).
  • Ensure correctness of approvals and computations.
  • Preparation of payment vouchers and coding expenditure as appropriate before payments.
  • nsure that advances and imp rest are fully accounted for with supporting documents.
  • Maintenance of the staff advance ledger.
  • Prepare periodic financial reports as per the departmental guidelines.
  • Ensure all financial assets are tagged and capitalised.
  • Ensure that the asset register is up to date.
  • Monthly review register and report on assets ready for disposal.
  • Provide technical advice and support to staff in line with finance policies and procedures to ensure adherence.
  • Ensure that policies and procedures are in compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Ensure statutory deductions are remitted on time to relevant authorities.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Two years’ relevant work experience.

KNOWLEDGE  REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Accounting, or any business related program with a bias in accounting from a recognized institution.
  • Professional qualification with ACCA, CPAU or any equivalent is an added advantage.

 

Job Title:Front Desk Officer

No of Posts: (1)

Duty Station: Kampala. 

Reports to: Senior Community Services Offices

 

Job Summary:To provide versatile secretarial and administrative support as required by management at the front desk

Key position duties and responsibilities

  • Receive and guide visitors to the office.
  • Receive and channel incoming telephone calls at the reception to the respective staff.
  • Ensure proper customer care in management of Project Beneficiaries while at the reception.
  • Be informed and provide information to beneficiaries and visitors.
  • Ensure compliance to work policies and procedures.
  • Maintain high level of confidentiality.
  • Responsible for maintaining proper and accurate records at the reception

 

Experience:

  • A minimum of one years’ relevant work experience in service in a busy place.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Degree in Office management, Secretarial studies, records management, information management or related discipline from a recognised institution.

 

Job Title: Drivers

No of Positions: (4)

Duty Station (3): Kampala and

                      (1): Kiryandongo.

Reports to: Logistics and Administrative Assistant

 

Job Summary:To support the transportation function of IAU office and in all IAU work stations.

Key position duties and responsibilities

  • Driving staff and clients
  • Deliver parcels as expected
  • Update Insurance
  • Ensure the vehicle is in a clean condition to reflect the image of the organization.
  • Transport or any person or parcel as requested by the IAU at any given venue.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations.
  • Ensure the vehicle is in a roadworthy condition
  • Identifying mechanical faults and any other defects on the vehicle and report immediately to the senior driver.
  • Conducting daily condition checks on the vehicle.
  • Ensure at all times that the vehicle is securely locked for the safety of company tools and other properties in custody of the driver.
  • Collect and take refugees/asylum seekers to required destinations such as homes, hostels etc. as and whenever required.
  • Ensure that all fuel issues are recorded against the correct vehicle number.
  • Verify that all damaged parts are replaced when vehicle is repaired or serviced.
  • Ensure that stores policies and procedures are complied with by all staff.

 

Experience:

  • Three years’ experience in a reputable organization
  • Clean driving record.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Minimum of “O” level certificate.
  • Valid Driver’s license with class B, CM, DL
  • Knowledge of defensive driving
  • Knowledge of the Ugandan traffic laws and regulations.

 

Job Title:ICT Assistant.

Duty Station: Kampala. 

Reports to: ICT Officer

 

Job Summary:Support the ICT Officer in providing an efficient and secure network that supports end users to perform their duties while ensuring a controlled and secure computer systems environment and developing employee skills.

Key position duties and responsibilities

  • Provide first line Personal Computer support to end users for all operational activities
  • Install and support Personal Computer software
  • Manage the preventive and corrective maintenance of PCs, printers and peripherals
  • Organize and conduct user training of the systems.
  • Provide day to-day management and administration of the GBVIMS.
  • Responsible for data management and processing using the GBVIMS and generate timely reports.
  • Provide day-to-day network administration and support and ensure that users are informed of scheduled shutdown well in time
  • Perform day-to-day maintenance and installation of workstations, and network equipment for office and
  • Diagnose and fix a variety of computer software and hardware problems

Job Title: Civil Engineer

No of Positions: (1)

Duty Station:  Kiryandongo.

Reports to: Programs Manager

 

Job Summary: Plan, coordinate and implement all civil works of the program

Key position duties and responsibilities

  • The incumbent will be responsible for designing organisation BOQs for all civil works of the program
  • Regular monitoring of all civil works of the program and ensure contractor’s compliance
  • Responsible for planning and coordination of all civil works of the program
  • Provide technical support and guidance to the management as regards all civil works
  • Review and assess all BOQs of suppliers and advise management on decision making
  • Work closely with partners –UNHCR and OPM to ensure that all the constructions are in line with the desired quality and quantity.
  • Undertaking technical and feasibility studies on all sites.
  • Using a range of computer packages for developing detailed designs and carrying out the necessary calculations.
  • Report in writing on delays, observed quality deficiencies of the works, materials and/or quality issues relating to construction operations and resolving technical construction challenges.
  •  Ensuring timely completion of projects within a given budget and time set by the contractors.
  • Monitor construction activities and participate in the inspection of the construction and materials as specified in the contract documents, Contractor’s work plans and best practice.

Experience:

  • A minimum of  three years’ relevant work experience in construction and civil works.

Knowledge  Requirements:

  • The candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, Structural or other related) from a recognised university
  • Should be a registered Engineer with UIPE
  • Good working knowledge of civil engineering principles, standards and regulations relating to construction and inspection.

 

Job Title: Environmental Officer

No of Positions: (1)

Duty Station:  Kiryandongo.

Reports to: Field Supervisor

 

Job Summary:  To plan, coordinate and implement all planned activities in the environment sector.

Key position duties and responsibilities

  • The incumbent will be responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing all the planned activities of the sector.
  • Responsible for establishment of woodlots in the settlement on provided land
  • Responsible for maintaining the existing woodlot and ensure that it meets the right standars
  • Responsible for maintaining the nursary bed, raise seeds and ensure quality seeds are raised.
  • Supervise all activities aiming at environment protection
  • Mentor and train extension workers in environmental issues and responsibilities
  • Work hand in with partners –UNCHR and OPM in implementation of all planned activities
  • Providing technical support and guidance to management in line with environment sector
  • Document the best practices implemented, success stories and case studies for dissemination and learning.
  • Preparely timely activity, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Will directly participate in writing fundable proposals in line with the section.

Experience:

  • A minimum of  three years’ relevant work experience in implmenting environment related activities.

Knowledge  Requirements:

  • The applicant should preferably hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Management, Physical and Natural Science, Environment Engineering or Science in Forestry from a recognized University.
  • Ability to work in the field.
  • Ability to ride with a valid riding licence.

 

Job Title: Legal Assistant

No of Positions: (1)

Duty Station:  Kiryandongo.

Reports to: Legal Advocate

 

Job Summary:To provide support to the legal section in planning and coordinating activities of IAU legal section, ensure compliance with laws and regulations, and ensure best practices in the legal section.

Key position duties and responsibilities

  • Assist the Legal Advocate with implementation of all the planned activities and accomplishing of targets as scheduled.
  • Provide legal counselling to Refugees and Asylum Seekers.
  • Educate refugees on the refugee law in Uganda and interpretation of the laws.
  • Participate in all the community activities where necessary and as guided by the Legal Advocate and handle legal issues raised by clients.
  • Conduct follow-ups on cases reported from time to time as guided by the supervisor and provide a report.
  • Document the best practices implemented, success stories and case studies at the community level for dissemination and learning
  • Carryout field visits as required and compile reports for the Legal Advocate for further intervention and appropriate management of cases.

Experience:

  • At least one year’s relevant work experience.

  • Degree in law from a recognized institution.

 

Job Title: SGBV Assistant

No of Positions: (1)

Duty Station:  Kiryandongo.

Reports to: SGBV Officer

 

Job Summary:To provide support to the SGBV Counsellor in the implementation of programme activities for the prevention and response of SGBV in the refugee communities, and the promotion of protection integration activities through coordination with other stakeholders.

Key position duties and responsibilities

  • Support the SGBV counsellor in organizing continuous refresher talks for refugee community SGBV Peer Educators during the monthly meetings.
  • Support the SGBV counsellor in organizing awareness and sensitization campaigns in refugee communities including men and boys in the SGBV prevention and response.
  • Support the SGBV counsellor in facilitating refugees to interpret SGBV IEC materials in different refugee languages.
  • Provide support to the SGBV counsellor in Organizing and conducting informative meetings with SGBV institutions.
  • Compile timely reports and submission
  • Provide support to the SGBV counsellor in developing quarterly work plans and implementing the community services activities.
  • Where necessary, Provide Psychosocial counselling to identified SGBV Survivors and conduct home visits for vulnerable cases with special needs.
  • And any other duties assigned by the supervisor from time to time

 

Experience:

  • One (1) years of progressive relevant work experience in counselling survivors of gender-based violence or vulnerable women and girls;

Knowledge Requirements

  • Bachelor/Degree in Social work, Human rights, political science, law or other related field;
